After years of photographing weddings and engagements, I’ve learned that the most meaningful moments happen when you feel comfortable, seen and free to be yourself. I specialize in creating timeless, true-to-color images that reflect how your day felt - warm, vibrant and full of life. My heart is especially drawn to intimate, intentional celebrations. The kind where the focus is entirely on connection. Elopements are where I see that magic the most, and I’m excited to keep building stories in that space.

The Heart Behind the lens
When I finally picked up my camera again, it felt like finding myself after years of searching. Photography has always been my way of slowing down, connecting and remembering what matters. That’s what I want for my clients too – photos that capture not just how things looked but how they felt.
Makenzie Mathison Photography is about more than pretty pictures. It’s about presence, connection & storytelling. I pour my whole heart into every shoot. Whether it’s a big wedding day, a cozy engagement session or a quiet elopement in the mountains, I’m here to create photos that feel timeless and true-to-color; warm, vibrant and full of life, just like the memories they represent. In early 2024, I quit my corporate job with no backup plan. I just knew I couldn’t keep living a life that didn’t make me feel alive. Every decision I make now is rooted in one thing – fulfillment. I tried everything under the sun (literally everything)! I was a Beverage Cart Girl, a Leasing Agent, even a teacher. While each chapter taught me something new, none of it ever lit me up the way photography did.
The truth is, it had been there all along. My love for photos started when I was just eight years old with a tiny pink digital camera I took everywhere. I’d photograph my family, my friends, my pets… anything & everything that made me feel something. Looking back, I realize that I wasn’t just taking pictures, I was learning how to see beauty in everyday moments.

When editing you can almost always find me listening to music, specifically Fleetwood Mac. Some go to songs include Gypsy, Say You Love Me and Landslide. I LOVE this band!
Traveling is the most important thing in the world to me and truly one of my biggest passions. I constantly have a new trip planned and almost always try and book a shoot while on my adventures.

My dream wedding destination has to be the Dolomites. I'm a big mountain fanatic and cannot imagine a more beautiful location to capture someone's big day.
